The governing body can allocate up to 60 places for children in the reception year. Children commence school during September of the year in which their fifth birthday occurs.
Parents wishing to apply for a place at St Mary’s are invited to request a ‘register of intent to apply form’ from our school office. Parents considering sending their child to the school are welcome to visit. An appointment can be made by telephone. Term dates for the current year are attached in the appendices to the back of this brochure and are provided to act as a handy reference for you throughout the year.
General information regarding admissions can be found on the LEA website at www.havering.gov.uk and clicking on ‘Education and Learning’.
There are 7 year groups in the school, two classes in each year group. In each class, all of the children are in the same year group.
Classes are named: R – Reception Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6 with the class teacher’s initial to distinguish the class.
Every effort is made to ensure a balance of age and gender in each class. Year groups work together and the programme of work is planned and reviewed jointly by the teachers in that particular year group. Children are expected to work in a variety of situations – class groups, mixed ability groups, streamed groups, individually or with a partner – in whatever organisation they are placed or choose to be.
At the end of Year 6, children transfer to secondary schools to which parents must apply for admission. There is no automatic transfer from St. Mary’s to any secondary school.
