Here at St Mary’s, we believe ICT is changing the lives of everyone. Through teaching ICT we equip children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. We enable them to find, explore, analyse, exchange, present and publish information.
We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in an evaluative and safe way. ICT skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners. We expect our staff to recognise e-safety issues and plan accordingly to ensure the online safety of our children in and out of school.
“Learning about e-safety is a vital life skill. Empowering children at an early age with the knowledge to safeguard themselves and their personal information is something that needs to be nurtured throughout school to see them into adult life.” (Alan McKenzie, e-safety advisor, 2012)
